The Octagon Theatre is delighted to be presenting more access performances than ever before in 2016. This year’s Christmas pantomime will also officially have the most accessible performances to date.
Access performances are incredibly important at The Octagon Theatre and staff are keen to provide productions that are open to as many people as possible.
In 2016, The Octagon Theatre has so far already presented British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted performances of two fantastic children’s productions:
- ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’;
- ‘Dinosaur Zoo’
Those who attended the BSL performances provided positive feedback, suggesting that the BSL signing added to the performance – even for those without the need for interpretation.
Our spectacular Christmas pantomime, ‘Peter Pan’, already looks set to be our biggest and best production to date and so we are delighted that this will now be accessible to even more people.
On Tuesday 6 December at 1.30pm, the first ever ‘relaxed performance’ specifically designed for people with learning difficulties and those who may be on the autistic spectrum will be presented. This performance will have a more relaxed atmosphere with certain stage effects being removed, greater freedom of movement within the auditorium and a more relaxed approach to noise within the auditorium.
On Friday 9 December 6.30pm, we welcome a BSL signed performance, then, on Sunday 1 January at 2pm, Stage Text will provide a captioning service that is similar to television subtitling and gives D/deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people access to live performance.
As well as these three access performances, for those patrons who find the flashing merchandise distracting, we have set up a non-flashing merchandise performance for Sunday 4 December at 11am.
As with all performances at The Octagon Theatre, ‘Peter Pan’ will have six wheelchair spaces available for each performance which need to be booked direct via Box Office.
To book tickets or to find out more information, please contact the Box Office (01935 422884), visit www.octagon-theatre.co.uk or pop into the theatre to see us. Please note that if you require specific access needs you will need to contact the Box Office directly so that we can best assist you with your booking.
We look forward to another fantastic year of productions at The Octagon Theatre, culminating in our magical production of ‘Peter Pan’.
