The Octagon Theatre’s Pantomime Bucket Collection for 2013/14 has more than doubled since 2012/13. This year the bucket collection raised a staggering £9,730 over the course of 41 performances of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ at the South Somerset District Council run theatre.
Half of the money that was raised this year will go to Yeovil Hospital’s Flying Colours Appeal which is currently fundraising for a new Special Care Baby Unit with more modern equipment and more space for the families of babies who are born too early, too small and those who are not well. With an overall total of £500,000 needed, and £340,000 already raised, the bucket collection’s contribution of £4,864.75 will help to make a real difference to the Hospital’s appeal.
The other half of the money raised will go to The Octagon Theatre’s Foyer Club. The fantastic team of 80 volunteers are busy fundraising all year round to improve the equipment and facilities at The Octagon Theatre. They have so far managed to support the Theatre in the purchase of its very own Grand Piano, an upgrade to the Infra-Red Enhanced Hearing System, the new sofas in the café/bar and the radios that now make evacuation procedures and overall communication much quicker and safer for staff and patrons.
Over the last few years the Pantomime Bucket Collection has gone from strength to strength: increasing from an overall total of £2,084 during the 2011 production of ‘Cinderella’, to £4,835 during 2012/13’s ‘Aladdin’ and jumping even higher to £9,730 during ‘Snow White’ in 2013/14. Since 2004 these charity collections have raised over £57,000 which has all been pumped into local charities and good causes.
The Octagon Theatre Foyer Club would like to thank all those who have contributed to these collections over the years. Their latest fundraising project is a Silent Auction which will run later this year.
