On Wednesday 11th September 2013, the Octagon Theatre organised for ZoieLogic Dance Theatre, an exciting all-male dance company, to perform their breath-taking and thought-provoking duet ‘MurMur’ at Yeovil College and the Quedam Shopping Centre.
ZoieLogic designed ‘MurMur’ to be ‘performed in non-theatrical male dominated environments with the aim of challenging perceptions and enticing the audience into the theatre to watch further work’ (ZoieLogic).
After experiencing the audience’s reaction to the piece yesterday, we think it is clear to say that the piece will achieve its aims! Along with ZoieLogic, we at the Octagon Theatre wanted to offer students at the College and shoppers at the Quedam Centre (who may not normally visit the theatre to watch dance), the opportunity to experience exciting, accessible and inspiring dance theatre, completely free of charge. It was fantastic to see members of the public stop to watch and take pictures, smiling and opened mouthed with amazement as the show got underway, and students hiding behind their hands as the impressive structure that the dancers climbed inside started to spin and turn upside down!
It was clear that the performance engaged and inspired a new audience, and we were able to show a snippet of what dance and the Octagon Theatre is able to offer the local community. The performance drew in quite a crowd at both locations, and we hope to see some now familiar faces in the audience at the Octagon Theatre as ZoieLogic perform ‘Echo’ this Wednesday 18th Sept at 7:30pm.
