On Saturday 22nd June, members of the Octagon Academy, along with other local groups associated with the theatre, took to the Octagon stage to show off a year’s hard work in the annual showcase, SHiNE 2013.
The Octagon Academy is made up of a variety of classes that are run here at the Octagon; it’s the place to sing and dance and has a keen focus on fun and enjoyment.
By coming together with local groups associated with the theatre, such as the Castaway Theatre Group, the Helen Laxton School of Dance, the Allen School of Dance, and Jessica Stephens (Let Me Entertain You performer), the Octagon Academy helped SHiNE 2013 to be the most successful showcase yet!
The night was a roaring success with exciting musical numbers from West-End shows such as ‘Wicked’ and ‘Les Miserables’, as well as beautiful songs from the Octagon Choir, and a host of incredible dance performances.
Thanks to all our talented performers, SHiNE 2013 raised an incredible £3,238.51 for the Foyer Club Fundraising Committee!
This Committee, launched by the Foyer Club, is an on-going commitment to support the Octagon Theatre by fundraising for equipment, improvements and services that will benefit staff, patrons and artists. The amount raised by SHiNE will therefore be another fantastic contribution towards these improvements.
The success of SHiNE 2013 most certainly proves that Somerset has an incredible amount of talented performers and so we look forward to the next SHiNE showcase in 2014 as well as eagerly anticipating the ‘Let Me Entertain You’ auditions.
