Adam Burgan Theatre Manager writes:- Our new season brochure has been released with details of our Autumn shows revealed. Each season I try to make sure there is ‘something for everyone’ and so we have a diverse programme of arts and entertainment lined up with return visits from popular artists and some exciting new shows coming your way.
Comedy is one of our most popular strands, and we look forward to welcoming back a host of top names including the legendary Ken Dodd, BBC Radio 4 favourite Jeremy Hardy, Australian comic Adam Hills, YouTube sensation Fascinating Aida, the very witty Pam Ayres, Jonathan Creek and QI star Alan Davies, ‘Have I Got News For You’ Captain Paul Merton with his ‘Improv Chums’, and the brilliant Reginald D Hunter. The season also sees Sandi Toksvig make a welcome return and a second chance to see her brilliantly funny and uplifting show ‘My Valentine’. The show sold out and the feedback from audiences was exceptional so if you didn’t catch it last time then don’t miss this second chance. We are excited to be working in partnership with Waterstones in bringing Mary Berry to The Octagon to reveal her autobiography. The ‘Queen of Cakes’ and star of the ‘Great British Bake-Off’ will talk about her fascinating life and career and audience members will also have the chance to get their hands on a signed copy of her book.
There will be superb live music from Barbara Dickson, Elkie Brooks, Show of Hands, Steeleye Span and popular shows like ‘Talon’, ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Forever in Blue Jeans’ and ‘The Pasadena Roof Orchestra’. Our Classical Concert Series promises an exceptional season of music that begins with the London Handel Players. With just 10 ‘Keys’ left in our ‘Buy A Key Appeal’ to buy a new grand piano we are confident that those final few will be snapped up and we have announced a concert to celebrate the piano. Our appeal patron, Martin Roscoe, will be unveiling the piano and performing in a special concert to mark the occasion. Armonico Consort will return to The Octagon to perform with leading soprano Gillian Keith and at Easter with Sir Willard White to perform the St Matthew Passion – just in time for Easter. Sinfonia Classica will perform with Lesley Garrett and these are just some of the highlights from our Classical Series. Mid Wales Opera celebrate the centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth with a performance of his wonderful opera – ‘Albert Herring’. We also have two delightful ballets with a performance of ‘Swan Lake’ from Moscow Ballet and a production of ‘The Nutcracker’ from the Russian State Ballet and Opera House that will boast a large live orchestra. We are looking forward to welcoming the professional musical tour of ‘Miricale on 34th Street’ and local companies will take to the stage with Yeovil Youth Theatre staging ‘Grease’ and Castaways Theatre Group show ‘Magic in the Music’. There are plenty of plays to choose from with adaptations of Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’, Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ and productions of Willy Russell’s ‘Educating Rita’ and a superb comedy starring Joe Pasquale and Ben Langley; ‘Ha Ha Holmes!’. There is also plenty of choice for little ones as we welcome Postman Pat, learn the story of ‘The Elephant Bridesmaid’, CBeebies presenter Andy Day in ‘Andy and Mike Tick Tock Time Machine’ all leading up to our spectacular pantomime. All of this and much more awaits you at The Octagon this Autumn so pop in and pick up one of our brochures or go online to see all the performances coming very soon: http://www.octagon-theatre.co.uk.
